Alex hasn’t got a girlfriend, hasn’t got nice parents and hasn’t got a savings contract with a building society. But he has got the Finnish Tango. His accordion is more important than his buddies with whom he unsuccessfully tours through Germany. That is until one of the two buddies commits suicide and the other gives up playing in the band and relinquishes his friendship with Alex. Alex is suddenly left on his own. On the run from debts and loneliness, he hears about a handicapped theatre group who are looking for someone to join them. Without further ado he pretends to be handicapped, he steals a handicap identity card from someone in a wheelchair and moves into the residential community of the theatre group. Challenged by the offers of friendship and the kindness of these handicapped people, Alex has to redefine his relationship to the community and to taking on responsibility.
Buket Alakus has succeeded in creating a fast paced, outspoken and sensual comedy that enables the viewers to immerse themselves in the world of friendship. Full of gentle melancholy and disarming wordplay an unusual story unravels about trust and social cohesion.
